As
we observed Women's Day on 8th March, as usual, the cloud of thoughts
burst and the echoes of ancient Indian mythology started appearing again to
resonate through time, offering timeless stories that highlight the strength
and resilience of women. The tales of Ahilya, Draupadi, Sita, Tara, and
Mandodari, captured in the ancient verse, "अहिल्या द्रौपदी सीता तारा मंदोदरी तथा । पञ्चकं ना स्मरेन्नित्यं महापातकनाशनम् ।।" remind us of the challenges women
have faced and continue to overcome, their struggles woven into the fabric of
our collective consciousness.
Sita's
trial by fire, the 'Agnipariksha,' draws parallels with practices that question
a woman's integrity and autonomy. Her ordeal serves as a poignant reminder of
the societal scrutiny and judgment that women endure, a call to action to end
such regressive traditions that undermine a woman's dignity and self-worth.
Tara
and Mandodari, the wives who faced adversity, personify grace under pressure.
Their stories echo through time, reminding us of the resilience women exhibit
in navigating difficult situations with fortitude, their strength a beacon of
hope for generations to come.
At
the heart of these tales lies the concept of 'Mana' (mind, thoughts, and
emotions), a concept that highlights a woman's natural ability to manage the
complexities of emotions and responsibilities skillfully. Whether it's nurturing
a household or leading in the corporate world, women excel at juggling diverse
roles, proving that true empowerment lies in balancing the heart and mind – a
quality often referred to as 'Mana Management.'
Despite
the progress made in championing women's rights, a persistent gap remains
between societal expectations and women's aspirations. Women continue to face
judgments on their choices – in their careers, personal lives, or marital
status. Ironically, at times, this judgment stems from other women themselves,
creating an unfortunate divide that hinders progress and empowerment. Women's
Day reminds us of the need for a supportive environment that fosters
inclusivity, understanding, and mutual respect, not just from society but also
among women themselves, for it is only through such an environment that women
can truly thrive and realize their full potential.
It
is time to acknowledge and appreciate the multifaceted roles women play, from
nurturing homes to leading organizations, and to unite in dismantling societal
stereotypes that hinder their growth and self-expression. For too long, these
stereotypes have cast shadows on the brilliance of women, obscuring their
innate strengths and capabilities.
Women's
Day is a call to action, a clarion call that urges everyone – men, women, and
society as a whole – to stand beside women, empower them, and collectively
build a society that champions equality and respect for all. In the tapestry of
life, every woman contributes a unique thread, weaving the melody of progress
and change, their voices harmonizing into a symphony of empowerment and
liberation.
As
we celebrate the resilience and strength of women, let us learn from the wisdom
of ancient verses and ensure that a woman's journey, from the ground to the sky,
is filled with support, understanding, and celebration of her extraordinary
ability to manage her 'Mana' with unparalleled grace and strength. For it is in
embracing and nurturing this innate quality that women will soar to new
heights, their wings unfurled, their spirits unbounded, and their dreams
realized. And in this journey, it is imperative that women stand united,
supporting and uplifting one another, for true empowerment can only be achieved
when women recognize the shared struggles and triumphs that bind them together.
